Fredrik Lonnqvist, M.D., Ph.D. Managing Director Translational Medicine Bridges B.V.

I am the Managing Director for Translational Medicine Bridges B.V. I am a M.D, Ph.D. with a broad medical, academic and life science industry background spanning over almost 30 years.

My working life experience includes medical practice, clinical and experimental academic research and 13 years in the pharmaceutical, the biotech and the medical nutrition industry in senior management positions; covering Research, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Business Development and Corporate Development - all in close collaboration with Marketing and Sales.

I have extensive hands on experience with all phases of drug development and possess a broad knowledge of drug discovery and development principles and practice with special focus on translational medicine and the opportunities and risks with early projects. I have also extensive experience in assessing business development opportunities and aligning research, development and technical activities with long-term strategic business objectives.

I have broad international leadership experience from my previous positions as Medical Director at SmithKline Beecham, VP Clinical Science and VP Clinical & Scientific Business Development at Biovitrum and VP and Chief Medical Officer for Nutricia, My experience includes strategic portfolio management and bringing nine drug candidates and numerous nutritional products from discovery to clinical trials and to the market. I have experience from several therapy areas including Metabolism, CV, CNS, Immunology, Hematology, Oncology, Respiratory and Virology.

I received my M.D. and Ph.D. at Karolinska Institute, Sweden, where I am still Associate Professor, specialized in internal medicine and endocrinology. My academic research has mostly been focused on diabetes and obesity have resulted in 75 publications so far. I also been reviewer for medical journals such as Nature Medicine, Lancet and Diabetologia.
